PROS: First the good part, the video quality on the 10.1 HD monitors is very good…even with non-HD video content. Audio is adequate and I tested the units with generic wireless headphones, wired headphones, FM radio transmission, and the unit’s own speakers. The wireless headphones seemed to lose signal if their position strayed too far from direct facing head level but that could have been the fault of the 3rd party headphones as they were cheap. The mounting system is very good and provides a stable mount with good viewing position. The wiring is unobtrusive and can be hidden fairly well in either permanent or temporary installations…at least this was true in my full size SUV. I really liked the fact that both the DVD Player and Video Monitor accepted video input stored on USB thumb drives, and SD memory cards, this was the advertised feature that swayed my decision to purchase these…but read on for the disappointing discovery…
CONS: The user manual is ridiculously inadequate and basically just a diagram of the included items. There is no excuse for even a China based mfg/seller to not hire an English speaking consultant to write a decent manual or set of instructions for all the features. The manufacturer’s YouTube help videos are just as bad. To say the DVD loading and unloading operation is cumbersome or difficult would be an understatement. To load or unload a DVD, the Player is pulled down on its hinged mount from the vertical position until it is facing down like an airline seatback tray. To load a DVD, the user presses on the spring loaded round DVD door on the back of the player and it pops open (very flimsy mechanism) and presses the DVD on the spindle hub (friction mount). To unload, you really need a pocket knife, fingernail file, or other flat tool to pry the DVD off the hub (not joking). The entire outer edge of the DVD is blocked from getting a finger hold and the tiny divot meant to give you a spot to pry the DVD off the hub is too small to do its job. Don’t expect a child to be able to do this on his/her own. If I had not intended to use USB stored content as the preferred video source, I would have returned the DVD Player on this issue alone. Now for the shortcoming that I could not accept, I found after a couple of hours of frustration, checking connections, changing cables, etc., that the CH1003B DVD Player will not mirror video from the USB, SD, or HDMI sources to the companion CH1006B Video Monitor. The player will only mirror video from the DVD source. So unless you want to drive yourself crazy with the cumbersome DVD loading and unloading, you can’t have both units playing the same movie or video. For this reason, I elected to return the CH1006B Video Monitor, as my intention was to be able to mirror USB stored movies from the Player to the 2nd Monitor.
SUMMARY: These seem to be well made units with the look and feel of quality. The main drawback is the clumsy & difficult DVD disc loading and unloading but it you can live with that and don't want to mirror play video stored on USB drives or SD cards to the second monitor, I think you would be satisfied with the purchase.
I put these in my 2014 Lexus LS460. If anything changes I will update the review.
I have paired this with Rocketek 6-port USB Car Charger Adapter with 4 Socket Cigarette Lighter Adapter DC Outlet Car Splitter / Car Socket Adapter - Build-in 90CM Cable and Fuse [9.1A/45.5W] / />
Great combo see photos
Just a note for one of the reviews I have seen; the car that went on fire.... that is a flaw in your car electronic design. When ignition is turned off there should be no power going to cigarette lighter outlet. If your car is older and does that, you can expect all sort of issues.
For those of you wondering how great this product is -
It was super simple to install - if you use the DC plug - We did not wire ours in.
The product itself looks nice - and the DVD player works fine. I bought these because it accepted movies on a thumb drive - and it took a lot of hair pulling to figure it out - but "DVD Copy MPEG2 + DTS" is the one I found that worked.
I gave it 3 stars because there is absolutely no instructions/manual and no customer service. You get a decent product but have to figure it out yourself.
