I often wonder why more CD receivers don't offer what Pioneer's DEH-X8800BHS CD receiver does — front and rear USB inputs. Seems like a small thing, but consider the possibilities. Run the rear USB cable behind the dash to your glove box, connect a thumb drive or iPod® loaded with music, and you've always got tunes when you get in the car. Meanwhile, you can plug your smartphone into the front USB port to charge it and enjoy features like streaming music services, your favorite podcasts, and more. But that's not all that's cool about this receiver.
Choose your own color scheme.
The DEH-X8800BHS offers the convenience and safety you expect with built-in Bluetooth hands-free calling, and this Pioneer supports two paired phones at once, so other drivers in your family can enjoy the advantages too. And with audio streaming, if you can listen to it on your smartphone, you can stream it wirelessly to the receiver. It's a great way to enjoy your podcasts, audio books, or a variety of music
This versatile CD receiver supports Siri Eyes Free with your iPhone through Bluetooth, which means you can ask Siri to make calls, select and play music, compose and hear text messages, read notifications, even use maps and get directions — all commanded by your voice.
Plug your iPhone® or compatible Android™ into either of the USB inputs and you can access your stored music files from the receiver's controls. And, if you're a Pandora® or Spotify user you'll control of your favorite playlists or stations, either via USB with your iPhone or Bluetooth with Android. Pioneer's ARC app gives you in-depth access to receiver controls from your smartphone.
The DEH-X8800BHS also features App Mode, so you can play and control music from music apps like iHeartRadio®, Aupeo™, and others when used with an iPhone (via USB connection). If you're into higher fidelity, spin your favorite discs from your CD collection, or enjoy FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) files you've loaded onto USB thumb drive.
Whatever you're listening to, you can tailor the soundscape with the 13-band EQ, complete with seven preset EQ curves. Three pairs of preamp outputs let you build a rocking system with external amps and subwoofers.
The DEH-X8800BHS's built-in HD Radio tuner takes listening to your local stations to the next level. Tune into a station that broadcasts an HD Radio signal and you'll enjoy the best sound in radio, plus extra programming choices on second and third channels when available. For some stellar variety, add a satellite radio tuner (not included, subscription required) and tap into the galaxy of music, news, sports, and talk programs offered by SiriusXM wherever you go.
The DEH-X8800BHS CD receiver adds some pop to your dash by letting you choose from over 210,000 colors with 10 brightness levels, so you can match this Pioneer's display to your vehicle's dash illumination. When you're in the mood, Pioneer's exclusive MIXTRAX feature adds a light show to your dash as you're listening to your favorite playlists and music files. You'll enjoy a pulsating multi-color display that's synchronized with your tunes, plus DJ-style audio transitions from song to song. It's sure to liven up the audio experience in your ride.
In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Great unit, user friendly, easy installation, everything you need to install is included in your shipment, and can't beat the price. Very satisfied as always.

Average Customer Review(s):
Great unit, user friendly, easy installation, everything you need to install is included in your shipment, and can't beat the price. Very satisfied as always.
Crutchfield's customer service was great, shipping was fast and everything needed for the install was included. The DEH-X8800BHS itself is loaded with features and is very nice looking. I like that it is somewhat understated and very simple and clean looking. I bought this unit to replace an old Nakamichi unit that was very nice in its day but by today's standards was lacking some convenience features like bluetooth and USB support. The 6 channel 4 volt pre-outs were a selling point for me, as I am running a 5 channel amp with my system. While I am not an audiofile, the auto EQ and time alignment seemed to make very noticeable changes to the sound and improve the staging. There are infinite colors for the display which is nice, so you can tweak it any way you would like to match the factory displays of your car, or whatever your personal preference may be. As for the people that have complained about brightness, use some common sense, evaluate the contour of your dash and the angle that the radio faces before you go saying that it's not bright enough. Bluetooth paired easily and was easy to use. My personal preference is to use a USB drive though, it's like having a juke box in your dash, the music starts right where it left off. The Pioneer arc app takes a little messing around to get working right through bluetooth, but once you get it figured out it seems to work well and it's pretty cool that you can adjust all of the head units settings through an app on
Pros: -Clean and simple looking -6 Channel 4 volt pre-outs -Standard and network mode (changes your pre-outs from front, rear, sub to highs, mids, lows) -Infinite color display -Bluetooth and USB both very easy to use -Auto EQ and Time alignment
Cons: -Takes a little playing around to get use to which menu the setting you are looking for is found -Pioneer Arc app is a little tricky to sync through at first
The main reason that I bought this player was because it could play FLAC files through the USB input....and it does! But, that's not all. It sounded head-and-shoulders better than my previous player which was no slouch. This player also has TONS of EQing options to tune your car to your liking.
Good stereo, but seemed to be missing some screws that attach to my car dash housing. I like Pioneer. But I wish their equipment didn't look like it was packed by monkeys.
Pros: Great performance, amazing sound.
Cons: Lacked certain installation pieces
Quick summary: Sounds fantastic. Easy install. Auto time alignment is great. Auto EQ was less so but manual EQ and xover is highly adjustable. The setup menu and controls are impossible to use without the instructions open in front of you. Buttons are tiny (why do they do this?), multipurpose, and confusing. Many display colors to match your interior. No display color except white is visible in sunlight. The ARC app crashes all the time and is very limited in functionality. Great connectivity to: Bluetooth anything, plus Android, iOS, and flash via the USB ports. (BTW I am having no trouble using my Gen 4 iPod Classic on the rear port, contrary to another reviewer's experience) HD Radio works very well - excellent sound, sensitivity, and selectivity. So nothing unexpected here for Pioneer fans: Excellent hardware, puzzling interface, buggy software. While I wish these issues were corrected, the problems disappear when everything is finally configured and working. If no one does a better interface I would definitely buy this unit again. The time alignment and equalization are absolutely phenomenal - like wearing headphones. And the unit is highly configurable - it's always difficult to find the menu function you want, but it's in there somewhere. (My setup is front 2-way component (4")speakers, rear 6.75 3 way coaxial, 200w powered 12" sub, and 2x90 watt/channel speaker amps.)
Pros: Sound and stereo imaging Configurability Input sources
Cons: Controls and interface ARC app
I bought this unit. I read all of the reviews, and decided I can deal with most of the cons, of this unit. I have had to swap out 2 units, and are about to swap out the third one. The head unit switches sources, by itself. For instance, I can be on a Bluetooth phone call and the head unit will switch to the radio, during the call. I push the phone icon and it will go back to my call. It will do it again. Back to the radio or Bluetooth music. I can be just riding down the highway and the source will switch by itself to the phone app, or another source. Crutchfield has been great sending me new radios, to replace the current ones. All of them have the same symptoms. I believe it is just this lot of 8800's. I bought a Pioneer, from Crutchfield before and had years of great radio. I have a different vehicle now that is why I am buying a new radio.
Pros: Good sound
Cons: display is not bright enough, and it changes sources by itself.
I got this unit to replace the factory radio (4 speaker system) in my 2007 Dodge Ram. Install was very straightforward. I ordered the prefab Crutchfield harness. I did have to call Crutchfield to ask about a plug in the vehicle wiring that was plugged into the factory radio, but had no spot in the new wiring harness. They were able to tell me immediately that it isn't used for this unit. Also, the harness came with a small black box wired in. Nothing like that in the factory harness. Apparently it is needed to provide constant current to the unit. Was a little confusing until I talked to them. The whole installation took about 2-1/2 hours. Would be much faster the second time around - it isn't difficult. Very nice fit in the dash. I bought this primarily so I could Bluetooth my iPhone, as well as stream music. So far, so good. It will even do voice dialing through Siri, by pushing a button on the head unit. Phone audio quality is good, both sending and receiving. The sound is very good - much better than the factory radio. Lots of adjustment. So far, the display is easy to read on a bright sunny day with snow on the ground. It pairs readily with my phone. Haven't tried with a second phone.
Pros: Easy install. Love the Bluetooth phone capability. Great sound for the price point. Good display. Solid 4.5 stars!
Cons: Would be nice to have a little better description of the wiring harness. I had to call a couple times to make sure I wasn't missing something during installation.
Had the unit but retuned it due to the description did not say that the rear USB does not work with iProducts at all. Since then I talked to Pioneer and Crutchfield and that has been updated so not the unit for my needs. Pain in the but installing and to take it out and send it back for errors from Pioneer to list that... Not the best manual. However it still sounded great! I had no problems with the screen display at all. I wonder if people have angled dashes or the sunroof open? Even then I can still read it with the glair from my windows. Maybe get window tint if its a problem? Blutooth was easy to use. It was a good unit so wanted to leave the review. I ended up with a Kenwood KDC-x501
Pros: Sounded good
Cons: Bad manual on Pioneer. Had nothing about the rear port being only for Android so shame on them seeing they make dj stuff you would think to fix that.
Outstanding performance in a challenging installation. I installed this in a 2003 Miata with Bose Amplifiers. Crutchfield sent the unit completely wired, so all I had to do was literally plug and play. This was fantastic because I have very little patience trying to manipulate 24 gauge wires. Great job Crutchfield! This unit has all the features I wanted: seamless Bluetooth, HD radio and easy to integrate XM.
Like the radio a lot, gave it 4 stars because the display is pretty dull in the sunlight
Easy installation, powerful crisp sound and great features!!
I purchased this unit to replace the previous aftermarket head unit that developed tuner problems. I must say that even though this unit is much less expensive than the one it replaced, I am very impressed with it's performance. The FM front end is quite sensitive and seems to have a great ability to lock onto stations, even in HD. The presets are easy to set as well as use and there are plenty of them. The auto EQ generated an EQ/time delay/level set that greatly improved the sound of the rest of my system and I am very pleased with the result. It's kinda fun to hear the thing in action too. It makes an bunch of clicking and frequency sweep noises while you stand outside the car listening. It works well. I also like the three levels of loudness compensation that provides a lot of flexibility. The hands-free connection works flawlessly with my Android phone. I can hear and be heard quite well and the voice recognition works pretty well too. I've never been impressed with the sound of MP3s played over a bluetooth connection but the ASR Pioneer has implemented here really does make that format much more listenable. The downsides: the display can get a bit washed out in bright sunlight depending on your color choice (and there are many) and I still haven't figured out how to get the rear USB port to work. I have a USB port in my dash and while the DEH-X8800BHS is connected to it, It doesn't seem to recognize anything I connect to it. All in all a really nice unit!
Pros: Great sound, Very flexible, Really good value
Cons: Display can be washed out in bright sunlight, Still haven't gotten the rear USB port functioning.
Pros: The Radio itself.
The sound is great. It is the quirks that are my problem. I have the latest firmware. The USB will work fine then suddenly stop and display check USB. It does this with multiple cables and drives. Randomly when I start my car the unit does not power on and I have to do it manually. When it comes on the clock is reset.
I recently installed this unit on my 2006 Nissan Sentra Special Edition. This unit has many customizing features, from the equalizer to time alignment and allowing the microphone to do the time alignment for you which is what I did and I must say it works very well. My bluetooth android phone connects flawlessly to this unit, spotify and pandora work great. I dont have to look at my phone to select my music; and the navigation will also play when in the pandora or spotify source. I have yet to try the Pioneer ARC app but honestly with all the features this already has I personally wouldn't be using it much. I have a 128GB thumb drive with a ton of music. I will say that it does take a while for it to initially connect but once it does I have not encountered any issues whatsoever. HD radio works very well and I love that the face of this unit has preset buttons, my old radio had no hard preset buttons. Keep in mind that this unit will ONLY ALLOW ONE USB TO BE USED FOR MUSIC AT A TIME! Yes, it has 2 usb inputs but only one can be active, the other can only be used for charging. You can always switch which usb you want active (the front or the rear) in the menu, but you iphone users you will be disappointed because the iphone must be connected via usb in order to use the all the spoitify and pandora features. Overall a good radio and a great radio for android users.
Pros: Great sound, loads of features, very easy menu to navigate.
Cons: Only one active usb at a time.
Sounds amazing. Bluetooth works flawlessly, main reason I bought this unit. ARC app makes audio adjustments incredibly easy.
Awesome deck and a ton of features. Paired flawlessly with my Note 5 phone the first time.
Overall good product
Everything I needed for a perfect installation in my Lincoln Town Car after the radio self tune itself can't believe the great sounding music with standard Factory speakers
Super product, great service and shipping... As always Crutchfield is my go-to place for automotive audio equipment.
Terrific single din head unit. Only thing keeping it from receiving a 5 star rating is that the rear USB input does not work for iPods.
Very happy with this unit. HD radio works perfect here in Miami, FL. I don't like very illuminated radios and with all the available settings a I was able to adjust the lighting just right.
Installed in a 2013 Fiat Abarth. Really made the stock Beats speakers and amp come alive. Still working out the settings to get them to my liking.
Pros: Great features. Love this radio.
Cons: Only draw back I have found is the display doesn't seem to get bright enough during the daytime
Received the deck and found that it didn't come with any installation instructions. It stated in the owner's manual that you should not try to install this yourself, but have a professional install it. Luckily, I've done enough decks so it wasn't a problem. I like this way better than my Premier. It's way easier to get set up. With the Premier, I never did figure out how to get the presets set. I did once, and then forgot how I did it. This has the old school one touch button presets on it which I like. Some complained about the brightness of the screen in the daylight, but I thought the brightness was just fine. The other problem is they were to send a car-specific wiring harness between the car and the radio, and that never came, but I was replacing a deck where the wires were already cut so no big deal. This sounds great with no amp, although I noticed the gauge of wire was considerably smaller than the Premier wiring harness. It didn't seem to make any difference in sound quality though.
This Pioneer unit was ranked very hig for calue and the hat is why I purchased it, easy to install, and everything I needed for a very small amount of moolah.
Pros: Excellent bluetooth, packed with features and easy to install.
I haven't spent as much time with the receiver as a I would have liked by now (wife drives the car more often than I) but overall it's very good. It has a strong radio tuner, good sound quality, and lots of audio settings. I love the fact that it has a 3-way network mode, which I'll be utilizing for my front stage once I pick up an amp for the Focal 165KR set. I would like to complain about the screen not being bright enough, though. It's completely unreadable mid-day with the sun out, and don't even think about seeing it with sunglasses. Also, the reaction time for changing tracks on my iPhone (wired) is very slow, like a full-second delay from pressing next to it actually changing. This happens when using the physical buttons on the faceplate, the steering wheel controls, or even the supplied remote. One particular bummer for my car (2007 Honda Civic Si) is that Honda likes to put their clocks in the radios, so you'll lose it when switching to an aftermarket. While this receiver does have a clock function, you won't see anything else at all when it's displayed, such as the iPod track information or Radio Data System (RDS) information.
Pros: Strong tuner, good sound, lots of audio settings, 3-way network mode
Cons: Dim screen (even on max brightness), slow reaction for changing tracks, clock display overrides all the rest of the displays
Very nice and easy install, the Radio takes a little time to get use too, the menus are very different from the DVD Pioneers. But the audio adjustments are superior!
great head unit..pioneer did a great job with this unit.it even displays your phone battery percentage with connected with bluetooth.great equalizer also.
Pros: great sound and setup
I've had a few days with this new deck, I'm so thrilled with it. Nearly infinite sound adjustability, the ARC app is VERY helpful for superior fine tuning! You must purchase this if you're searching for the ultimate single din unit! I just wish I could upload screenshots.
Pros: Sound, appearance, 3 sets of 4volt amp outputs and smartphone app control!
Cons: "Function" button isn't available on the remote.
I purchased this receiver after looking hard at all of the other radios being offered at Crutchfield - and elsewhere. I installed it in a 2002 National RV Sea Breeze Class A motorhome; while the vehicle is 15 years old, the previous owners seldom used it (15,800 miles when we bought it) and it is in very good condition. It had what was once a very nice CD/radio, but it didn't have Sirius or Bluetooth. Installation was pretty easy - no install kit required - since the wiring between the Prestige P-950 and the Pioneer were color matched. The Sirius installation was interesting, too - but I'll review that unit separately. How does it sound? Wonderful! How is the HD radio reception? Great in town; I haven't taken the rig on the road yet. (My wife and a friend are at a bead retreat in Shreveport this weekend, so she can tell me what she thinks when she gets home in a few days.) The hands-free works great, too - although the cavernous motorhome does cause some echo for callers on the other end. Would I buy it again? Absolutely!
Pros: Sound, versatility, quality
Cons: None so far!
Love this receiver! My previous car had the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS and I definitely prefer this one. It is nice to have physical preset radio station buttons and the volume wheel feels much more sturdy. Gave my stock Corolla speakers a little more life and the RCA pre-amp outputs will be nice for when I choose to upgrade to new speakers. I have noticed that other reviews claim the screen is unreadable during the day. I agree that it could probably be a little bit brighter, but it is definitely still readable. There is a brightness setting you can adjust in the illumination settings. All in all, a great receiver!
So I traded in the Pioneer DEH-X8700BS for this model. Its basically the same model just one year newer. The main thing that I didnt like about the old Pioneer is that it had no physical preset buttons. I dont mind that on a large touch screen but not on a small area. Anyway onto the review of this radio. It has all the best things of the old one plus a few more. The sound quality is great, and to be honest I know many said its hard to tune (which it may be for someone who is used to just Bass and Treble), but compared to the outgoing model the menu structure is much better, and the ARC makes tuning and changing settings very easy, at least on the iphone. I will say that as others have said the display can get a little sun washed but I am putting it in a restored car which lights are dimmer so to me it blends very well. I would give it 5 stars the only thing that took one away is some of the settings are cryptic and if you not technical it could be challenging. Overall I really like this stereo, sound quality is great, I have all 3 preout sets going a 5 channel amp driving front and rear components and a 10" sub so I cannot comment on how it sounds driving speakers directly from the headunit. I dont think you will be sorry with this purchase.
Pros: Great features Good Sound quality Infinite color display to match any interior Multiple connection possibilities ARC App
Cons: The controls can be a bit complex for the average user
If you're looking for a head unit that is simple to use and easy to see, this is not the unit for you. Even when the color is set to white, its barely visible during the day, if visible at all. Gets frustrating. It is loaded with TONS of features. Some, in my opinion are great like the dual USB ports, bluetooth connection, included hands free equipment, spotify and pandora control, HD radio, etc. Some just complicate things like the eq, crossover, etc. I'm old school, I prefer a simple head unit with a separate eq. To me, it's just simpler to use. With the eq, crossover, etc built into this unit.. It's nice but can be a pain at the same time. Over all, if I had to do it over again, I would have bought something else. Then again, I'm not so upset with my choice that I complain too much. My overall opinion of this unit is stuck between love and hate. I would say the biggest downfall is the brightness, or lack of, of the display.
Pros: Lots of features. App compatible. Bluetooth ready. Hands free ready. Dual USB ports. Great sound, once set to your liking.
Cons: Built in sound adjustments get complicated at times/tricky to get sounding just right. Display is rarely visible during the day time, even set to white. Real frustrating!
Pretty disappointed in a few of things. First off, I am very comfortable with Pioneer products and it delivers their predictable great sound. There are a couple of things that are pretty hard to get past, however, & I will probably be returning it. First is the USB issue. The product description states that there are 2 USB inputs and that is true, but it fails to tell you that you can only use 1 at a time. You have to choose which USB is active in the initial set up & then the other one can only act as a charging port. This is super disappointing as 2 USB was my primary reason to choose this unit. Second is that once you choose Bluetooth to sync up to your phone, you can't run an iPod separately as a source. It will only sync up to one Apple device at a time without having to go into the menu settings and changing the source. Since trying to use this unit without ARC is very difficult due to the 3rd issue, this sucks! Third issue. For some reason, the combination of a VERY dim display, coupled with unbearable glare on the front makes this unit completely unreadable. I don't really care about that for music info as it is a single line display but for using the menu, it is horrible. I have tried a number of things but the curved glass & the angle of my dash make this a real problem.
Pros: *Great Pioneer sound
Cons: *Two USB inputs but only one is usable at a time. The other is disabled except for charging *Very dim display that is difficult to read during the day *Horrible glare on the face making the above issue worse *Only 1 Apple device can be synced at a time, this makes using an iPod & ARC control on my phone a no-go.
Sound quality is really nice. A number of functions included in this unit adds to the versatility of the unit. The cons that I experienced is the automated EQ setting did not work. It would not produce the tone for the mic to tune the system.
Excellent stereo. Maverick was very helpful finding the right product to replace the aging Alpine on my boat. the DIY install was very straight forward. It has so many features that I have to get some help from my techie son to access them all.
Pros: Great value
The DEH-X8800BHS supports HD Audio FLAC up to 24B/96K which allows me to play 99.9% of what I have. I have so few 24B/192K files so it's not a huge issue for me. The App allows easy access to many functions that are buried in a menu in the unit. The sound quality is as good as previous Pioneer units, which has been fantastic for me in the car. Bluetooth phone calls work great and sound clear. If Pioneer upgrades the display and adds Gapless audio playback on a future unit I would consider that unit but until then I'm sticking with this one. It's not a perfect unit, maybe one step back on display but two steps forward with improved audio and app integration.
Pros: Supports HD Audio FLAC up to 24B/96K. The Android App allows easy access to many functions that are buried in a menu in the unit. Bluetooth phone calls work great and are clear.
Cons: No Gapless Audio playback! The display isn't quite as useful as previous DEH-X8700BH. That unit had a little time gauge which let you know how long the song was and where you were in it. Also it displayed sample rates of FLAC files which was nice to see. Directions to make the App work are poor.
Does everything, I love it!
Great product, easy install overall. Bluetooth microphone for phone and music works better than I thought.
Cons: No mute button to quickly silent music.
It did not fit in the 2002 Toyota 4runner because the rca plugs are on the opposite side compared to other head units out there. You might need a right angle rca adapter. Even with the adapters it's still annoying because of the connector spacing and chassis design. The aux input makes a ringing sound when nothing is connected to it. It goes away when you connect a phone to it. The sound quality without any sound processing is comparable to other head units.
Pros: Good sound processor options Auto Eq works good Fast Bluetooth firmware updates No audible noise problems
Cons: RCA plugs on wrong side Display dim in sunlight
As advertised! Decent power, lots of features, good bluetooth connectivity. So many features, though, it's a little hard to get around all of them. Figure it out before you start driving. The manual is not very well written, though. Obviously translated and not well proofread by native speaker. Also, the microphone setup routine does a pretty good job of setting the basic tone controls, and you can tweak from there. Recommended installation parts made the installation pretty seamless. The master sheet is a little thin on how to actually disassemble the dash for my 325i, but there's lots of online videos for that. Also, Crutchfield's phone support was helpful to figure out the wiring harness.
Pros: Lots of features
Cons: Confusing manual
I love pioneer x8800bhs stereo, it was easy to install easy setup
Pros: Easy installation, great sound
This is a phenomenal unit. It has an endless array of functions. All very easy to access and set up. The display is beautiful and has so many color and information settings there is something for everyone. I love this head unit!
It's as good as I need. The wiring instructions for the novice is poorly laid out. Took a while to see what they were trying to tell me. Still trying to figure out half the settings. Hope you have some time to kill.
Pros: Good quality Pioneer product.
Cons: Over my head with all the bells and whistles but I needed HD radio and Bluetooth.
Great stereo except for the display. In the light of day, the display is hard to read. Functions are great and Bluetooth connects quickly. Stereo power is great and drives the kicker speakers with authority. I used the installation sleeve and that made the install easy.
Pros: Sound, functions and power
Cons: Display brightness.
Excellent sound quality, and being able to run it with my phone is perfect.
Pros: USB port in the back, Bluetooth, phone app, great sound
The radio is awesome, I like the quality it's features. It's one of the best radio's I've had yet. It made my system very clear, it sounds so good. Thank you Crutchfield you guys are the best and back up your products. Will deffenitly tell everyone about you guys.
Love this pioneer!!
Good radio for price. Sounds great. A lot of features. Bluetooth works good. Would recommend this radio
Aswome radio, it is well worth the price tag and has a lot to offer
I like my new deck. Wish I would have replaced my factory unit years ago. Crutchfield staff answered all my questions. Great help. B
Solid unit with good features - dual USB and HD Radio was why I picked the model
Pros: Quality Pioneer product
Cons: Price on this model is a little high for the additional HD Radio capabilityj
Purchased this unit from Crutchfield. Fast dilevery. Installed easily into my 2001 F150 Supercab. Also purchased the Pioneer 4 channel compact amplifier to compliment this radio. The system has excellent sound, very clear using my 16 year old Pioneer 6x8 3way's . The head unit has a good display that is bright enough to read during the day. The hands free Bluetooth phone works very well. For a compact unit, it is well worth the money.
Pros: Ease of use. Great features. Excellent sound
Cons: Non so far
Great sound after spending some time fine tuning audio parameters. Installation instructions were very helpful. I'm happy with this unit!
Most of my grief comes from the the APP. I have the MOTO Z Android and It will not let me select SXM. It will not display SXM data. Can not change HD radio station 2,3 etc from the app. The Time alignment from the APP, when you switch seating positions loses your distances and level adjustments. Then when you switch it back, they are still messed up. The "Source Scroll" is too sensitive, it should be a 2x3 grid where the user can select the sources. Very Poor Execution of the app. the head unit function is a 4/5 stars if you don't use the app. I have contacted PIONEER on the issues repeatedly about the APP issues, but no replies.

This receiver met and or exceed my expectations. Looks good, fits good, sounds good. All the features I wanted plus some.
Pros: This thing is all that it's advertised to be and more.
Cons: None for me
Fantastic quality and amazing sound. Great product, great company!!
Pros: Fantastic sound quality Amazing features Perfect head unit!
From a price/performance point of view, this is an excellent receiver. Installation worked just fine, according to the installation and kit from Crutchfield. One hiccup - it worked fine with all inputs the day I installed it - I took the car out for a long test drive to test out all the features and sound of the unit. Next day, it refused to recognize any USB input. I reset the unit completely, followed all instructions to initialize the right USB port, nothing worked. I resorted to re-flashing the firmware (it was already the latest, but I did it anyway) and it seemed to fix it. We'll see if it 'forgets' the USB inputs again... No other inputs were affected - Bluetooth, Radio, CD, etc. all worked fine throughout. Luckily, the firmware flash is very easy - just a blank USB stick and the downloaded file from the Pioneer website.
Pros: Sound, features
Cons: USB inputs dropped out, needed firmware re-flash
overall good stereo but radio reception is not great
Pros: blue tooth works well,
Cons: poor radio reception
Well, so far the deck is almost everything I hoped for. Got it hooked up to a brand new complete system in my Chevy 3/4 ton. New door speakers front and rear, Over sized cables running power to it all.Two amps for power, so deck can just chill on it's own. 12" Rockford Fosgate sub. Rocks. Pairs with my iphone well, but could do it faster most of the time. And I can't get it to run my ipod off the rear Aux running into my glove box, but work when I use the front Aux. Would have gave it 5 stars if that wasn't an issue. Looks and sound great, very cool deck. Ross -
Pros: Looks cool, sounds great. Good price and easy to use.
Cons: Rear aux won't run ipod, and pairs with iphone a little slow.
Installation was a breeze using the Crutchfield supplied dash trim kit, wiring plug, steering wheel controls adapter and supplied instructions. I only had to add some heat-shrink to protect all connections. The unit itself has a ton of features, and the bluetooth connection for phone calls is 1st rate for quality & clarity. (I mounted the mike dead square above the rear-view mirror). Streaming from Pandora or SPOTIFY as clear and of full dynamic range, not out of a tin box. HD radio is sensitive & picks up FM HD signals from 50+ miles away even using the factory stubby antenna. HD radio now has me spoiled, as it's as clear as a CD, and I've found quiet a number of 'new' FM stations to listen to in the Indianapolis area. 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara FLAC audio recordings play great thru the USB port, and the AE/TD setup with the supplied microphone was kinda fun to watch & listen as the head unit automatically set the EQ curve for the interior of my vehicle. I gave the unit five for five on the stars, and the only item I can find to nit-pick is the brightness of the display..... even set at '10', it's a bit tuff to see on a bright day. The display dims perfectly when the headlights are switched on, and that dimming feature is a real plus in my book.
Pros: Everything the unit offers is above criticism. HD radio is clear & strong tuner capability. Bluetooth has great dynamic range, weather speaking on the phone or streaming music.
Cons: Display intensity lacking on a bright, sunlit day. (but that is not enough to pass this unit by)
I really like the simplicity, yet advanced features. I had a concern from reviewing other brands with Bluetooth consistency and this unit is darn near perfect. With the appropriate harness it plugged straight into the OEM amps sad sounds great. My only complaint is there still seems to be a desire to make the face light up like something from Saturday Night Fever. You can turn it off and configure colors and display well enough, but a little silly this stuff is still there. For the value and features I would highly recommend this unit.
Pros: Consistent bluetooth Easy integration to OEM amps Good value
Cons: Disco dome light feature needs to be shut off
I bought this to replace the DEH-X9600BHS that I installed in the spring due to the user/driver friendliness of this model. The preset buttons on the face were the main draw, but Pioneer also made the display far easier to read. I haven't had it out on a sunny day yet, but the larger characters on the display are a huge improvement to me. The 9600 was a nice unit, but a little unsafe if you were channel surfing, especially with a SiriusXM radio added to it. I also like the way the faceplate comes off of this unit compared to the older radios. I find it easier to reinstall than the old style.
Pros: Preset buttons on the faceplate. Larger characters on the display. Front USB port.
Cons: None so far.
Good service excellent product
Easy to operate, great features, produces great sound.
This is the latest of several Pioneer units I've put in the cars I've owned over the last decade or so. I'm familiar with the menu structure, so I'm over that hurdle. This one has some features that I wasn't familiar with so I got thrown off a bit during installation and had to consult the manual to set it up. I recommend reading through the manual if you haven't put one of these in before! I put this in an older car, a '79 BMW 733i. The previous owner(s) had long ago replaced the OEM stereo unit with a Kenwood, but had not replaced the wires to the rear speakers. When I wired this Pioneer up directly as the older Kenwood had been done, it didn't work. I called Crutchfield's tech service and they zeroed in on the issue right away. It took them longer to get me to understand it because I was dim and stubborn. But they were patient and polite and eventually I came to understand that I needed to run separate ground wires to my speakers to replace the common ground that worked fine in '79 but not in '16. That took me a bit more time, but afterwards the unit works and sounds as terrific as I expected it would. I'd probably give the unit itself four stars, just due to the cryptic nature of some of the settings, but the Crutchfield team gets the fifth star. I've been a Crutchfield customer for almost 40 years now (I bought a Craig "Powerplay" in the late '70s), and will continue to be one for as long as I can still drive and enjoy music while doing so.
Pros: Great sound and features
Cons: Cryptic High Pass Filter setup nomenclature - a minor quibble
Tons of features, powers speakers nicely (5" coax) some will want/need to ad an amp. looks nice and clean Price to features can't be beat.
Pros: Great Price to features Clean looking unit
Cons: For some the amp maybe a con. 13 watts only but not a con for me.
I sent back a comparable, more expensive Kenwood receiver in exchange for this one. I saw that this Pioneer has a Bluetooth 3.0 while the Kenwood - and most others for that matter - have just a Bluetooth 2.1 which is from 2006 and with which I've struggled in the past. There is Bluetooth 4.0 and 5.0 now, but I do not see any car stereo receivers with more than 3.0. I think that is important. This unit does not have quite the RMS power of the Kenwood though (13 watts vs. 22 watts). I'm using an amp. I probably wouldn't have used an amp if this unit had more RMS. It's a nice piece with some other good features like a Time Delay and EQ sensing system. And it has 4 watt line out. That's very good. It is still too complicated to set easily. I'd rather have a extra dial and easier set ability. No one make it as easy to set as the factory radios. To get a Five Star rating from me it would have to have less complicated procedure for setting features. I cant figure most of it out.
Pros: 3.0 Bluetooth
Cons: Complicated to set the features
Love the sound and it does all it says it will.
Great features, but looks like I'll be returning this head unit due to the fact that the firmware is glitchy. 80% of the time, pressing the volume knob will not go into the main menu. The display will say main menu and then go straight back to track info. The HU reads music off of my android phone when plugged in via usb cable when it feels like it. Also, the display intermittently shows the phone menu on its own, so I have to constantly back out of it to switch tracks and what not...
Pros: Improved overall sound production with stock speakers. Interface seems faster than kenwood decks. Multi color display. No probs seeing display, but of course some colors will look dim due to the nature of the led. i.e. Red. Clear HD Radio Radio reception has improved over stock HU.
Cons: Glitchy firmware Doesn't always read music from Android phones plugged in via usb cable
Nice receiver. No problems seeing the display. Instructions could be more helpful. Too many sources to scroll through, especially considering I don't use half of them. It's kind of silly that you can't use both USB ports at the same time. Otherwise I'm happy with it.
First 8800bhs arrived with scratches on face. Obviously used. Arranged for exchange. While waiting, tested unit. High noise floor. (the background hiss sound when quiet passages are playing, or between tracks) Typically, you want as low a noise floor as possible. This unit it was obvious the the point of annoyance. Further, obvious popping when the unit starts. NOT typical amp turn on pop. I tested multiple amps - Tru tech, Phoenix gold, zapco, infinity, even sony. Every single one had the issue. The pop was isolated to the unit and it's timing on the activation of the remote line in relation the the activation of the audio outputs. As if that wasn't enough, the unit cracks and pops in between audio tracks. Both on usb and CD. Every single time the song changes. Every. Single. Time. Again, isolated to the unit and it's handling of a very brief audio mute between tracks. Same issue as before - when audio is reinitialized, it pops. And to continue the saga, there is audible noise every time a button is pressed. Thinking it defective, as it was obviously used prior, Crutchfield sent me a 2nd unit. Same issues. The pops weren't as loud, but there. Same noise floor. And this one, the CD player failed 20 minutes in. Great. Working with Crutchfield on getting a 3rd unit, and I have my fingers crossed. If this one too has issues, I give up. Very disappointed. Pioneer was great, my p880prs ran for years. Btw tests both in car, and on test bench via 20a 12v suppl
Pros: It turned on
Cons: Doesn't function as intended.Crutchfield response on 11/14/2016 Thanks to Tom's in-depth review, we're certainly re-evaluating our procedure for determining the status of "Open Box" products. We apologize to Tom for the troubles, and as he noted, we're working to get him a car stereo that fulfills his needs.
This radio is .....Awesome.... It out performed units with more power. Including Kenwood and JVC. It also has lots of features. It uses the wattage very efficiently for a high quality output. Lots of adjustments to create what ever sound pleases you in both the highs and lows. I should've selected this unit first. It would've saved a lot of time and effort on both Crutchfield and myself.
Pros: Lots of features. Great range of sound with less wattage than competitors. Good face layout. (As good as you can get for the real estate available). Easy to install.
Cons: A slight hit on the brightness of the display. Much better than the competition but, since Pioneer out shines on the performance, it's disappointing they are short on the display. But it seems to be a general problem for this type of unit.
Sound is great after using Auto EQ and Time adjustment, Bluetooth works great very easy to use and setup, Pandora and Spotify work very well through Bluetooth, they will start the App and let you control these apps very nicely (Android) Biggest gripe, which almost made me return the unit is the confusing nature of the USB ports: Only one can be active at a time - and that must be configured to the usage - which is memory or App control. If you do not do this correctly you can not start/select the ARC App, or you won't read your USB flash drive. The menu system is not friendly at all in this regard - you must make sure you power off unit to select the Active (front/rear) port, then also make sure you select memory or app control over USB - this is still proving to be difficult to change between using the ARC app and also using USB as flash drive - don't expect like I did to easily switch between front and rear and the ARC app and USB flash drives - be prepared to be frustrated - this is coming from a software engineer who writes embedded software and has been doing car stereo systems for 30 years and many cars.. There were also issues with USB reading 16 gig flash drive which worked in my old unit (JVC Arsenal). I think I will be happy with this unit keeping USB to be memory, and using Bluetooth. The ARC app is ok for setup viewing and adjusting EQ and Color, but I won't be using it for now to control the unit (maybe later)
Pros: Auto Tuning using provided mic produces great Sound customized to your system. Bluetooth integration. ARC app is nice to have for setup - but frustrating to use in real world
Cons: Dim Display, yep it's true, white seems blueish - I adjusted it to get a little better. One active USB port at a time, also USB port must be configured for Memory or App control. Menu system to switch between these modes is confusing and time consuming - would be nice if both USB could be active - one for ARC app one for USB memory flash..
The 13 band EQ is amazing, the radio has great sound as expected from Pioneer, the only thing I didn't like was that it couldn't Bluetooth both Apple and Android at the same time.
Pros: Great Sound, EQ is flat out amazing if you have good aftermarket speakers.
Cons: Hard to read the screen during heavy sunlight. Can't Bluetooth Apple and Android products at the same time.
This little sound system is a great value! Installation, thanks to Crutchfield and online videos, was a breeze! Radio interface took a little getting used to, but I think I have down now! Factory Instructions aren't the greatest! I wish the front panel wasn't so glossy, and that the materials were slightly more robust! Illumination color options are fantastic! Overall, I am very pleased!
Pros: Great sound! Very clean Design!
Cons: Glossy front panel, making it difficult to read during the day, materials feel a little flimsy!
This has been a good unit so far. The installation was fairly straightforward and easy to do. I expected the free installation instructions to come in the box and I did not see the email with those instructions until after I had already installed the device, but they were not all that necessary.
Pros: Good sound Easy to install Equalizer
Cons: Displayed information is not that relevant most of the time. Would like to see the clock and the station/music info without having to switch display methods. When it switches from standard to HD radio on one local station, the music skips ahead a second or so. Which is pretty annoying, but I doubt it is an issue with the device.
The good stuff: This is a great unit. The sound is crisp and clear and so much better than any OEM head unit. The features are great for the price and the added ability to change colors, calibrate sound with an external mic, and Siri hands free, to name a few, are great for the money. I really enjoy having at least one knob for volume (instead of a button). It's easy to reach and doubles as a menu button. The HD radio grabs stations quickly and sounds very nice. The Pioneer app (free) is a nice touch for playing and viewing both my own library or the radio. Phone calls are clear on both ends and using Siri to make calls has been great. The OK: Access to my iPhone can be a little twitchy. Sometimes Bluetooth is seamless and my music plays without fail. Sometimes it just stops. The same for the iPod access via USB. It's something I can get over but it's a bit disappointing. The bad: The display is not bright enough to see. I've tried every setting but with any sunlight, it's just too dim. It's a HUGE disappointment in a great unit. I live in Texas and have dark tinted windows. I still can't see it. The best color is white for the display, but it's just way too dim. The best: Crutchfield support is the best! I had to call multiple times for help with connecting to make sure I could use my steering wheel controls. If it weren't for support, it never would have happened. I can't thank them enough!!!!!
Pros: Features Price Clarity Quality
Cons: Display is too dim
I have using Pioneer products for over 30 years. This is one of the best car stereos I have gotten. Fairly easy to setup & use even for an old guy like me (59) . Instructions are also easy to understand. I paired it with 4x6 pioneer speakers in front & infinity 6x9' in the rear of my 83 camaro. Sound is great.
Pros: Lots of features for the price. Bluetooth.
This is a very easy to use deck with a ton of features and great sound quality.
Pros: Tons of inputs and ease of usage
I'm a professional musician, and recording studio owner. Audio really matters to me. I'm also a BMW enthusiast, which means that achieving a mostly stock look and functionality are also very important. This unit does both well. I've always loved Pioneer HUs for their relatively understated look, and their display color selection. I have this head unit matching the OEM Amber displays in my 95 M3 perfectly. From an audio perspective, for a HU under $200 it gives you everything you need to obtain a great sound. Good audio conversion, useful EQ, and 4 level 'loudness' settings to drive the speakers in the way that best suits your system, car, and the music you're listening to. Bluetooth integration is seemless, and calls sound great on both ends. Would absolutely recommend to those looking for a clean, simple, great sounding solution that doesn't break the bank.
Pros: Audio quality, Clean look, easy to use
This head unit is head unit is amazing! It has all the features a head unit should. For thee price, you're getting a load of features most people won't even need but if you want to build a good system, this is a great place to start. Like others said, the menumber is not as user friendly as others but a quick look at the manual fixes that right away.
Pros: Loads of features, best head unit for the price (and I did hours of research), great company with a great reputation!
Cons: Semi complicated menus. But that's part of learning how to use it.
Excellent with my $2000 system
Excellent head unit/receiver... I did a bunch of research to find the best iPhone companion for both streaming audio and phone calls and the Pioneer 8800 definitely fits the bill. Phone pairing is easy; Pandora, BT audio; phone calling and receiving all work beautifully. Also important to have dual USB ports to accommodate a music library thumb drive in the glove box and a front port for phone charging ... works like a champ. The unit sounds great and with all the flashy disco lighting effects turned off, it looks nice and clean in the console. Lots and lots of features and control options, but the manual is pretty cryptic and barely serviceable as a guide... had to read it many times, experiment and still wondering about some of the features. Everything is there but just not intuitive. One of the undocumented "discoveries" was that phone call audio uses the REAR pre-outs exclusively (no phone audio through the FRONT)... I only needed 2 pre-outts to feed the factory amp that drives all the speakers in my '95 SL320 and chose the FRONT. BT and every other type of audio worked perfectly but no phone output. Crutchfield support guys worked with me over a couple of days and eventually we switched the line outs to the REAR and bingo -- worked perfectly. Would be nice for that detail to be in the manual. The only true negative for me is the glare on the display... night and in shade all is well; in ANY sun it is unreadable. A pain for phone calls.
Pros: Great sound and excellent iPhone BT app/audio/phone connectivity.
Cons: With any sun there is really bad glare on the display -- unreadable.
The Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS was the perfect after market solution for replacing the factory system. Has all the features that I was looking for and the quality of Pioneer is always a great value.
Pros: Seamless integration with the factory wiring harness. All of the features I was looking for, most importantly the second USB port.
I am very happy with this cd/HD radio.
Pros: Easy to install and setup and works great
this radio works very good. I used the auto EQ did not get out of the car the first time wow was it loud. The BT works well. The radio is complicated so read all the instructions so that you can set it up correctly and tune in the radio.
Pros: features are great sound quality is really good.
Cons: wish the Bluetooth(BT) had a way of answering from the steering wheel but I understand that since my vehicle did not have that option to begin with it would be hard.
After looking at many car stereos on Crutchfield and reading numerous product reviews, I went with the Pioneer. Good choice! It was a snap to install with the wiring harness Crutchfield included, and it works well with my steering wheel controls after I installed that add-on, which I also purchased from Crutchfield. I like the ability to set two different colors for the control knob and the display, and it is actually pretty bright, though I can't see it in bright sunlight when my convertible top is down. C'est la vie; I doubt there are any stereos that would be visible in that situation.
Pros: Value, "clean and cool" look, easy to use controls. Sound is very good. I also really like the dual USB connectors, one on the faceplate and one in the back of the unit that I ran to my glove box.
Cons: Display is bright, but insufficient in bright sunlight to see.
Great unit ..love all the options sounds great...bluetooth is nice feature also love the rear USB port..I'm able to keep ipos in glove compartment out of sight. Wish it came with a case for the detachable face...
Pros: Bluetooth,USB port, remote,hands-free
Cons: Display during the day
3.5 stars. I love being able to stream Spotify or Pandora from my phone via BT and also listen to HD Radio. Taking calls through the unit is also convenient since it automatically mutes whatever you're listening to and pushes the phone call audio through the car's speakers. I like the auto tune feature that automates the equalization and timing alignment of each speaker to create a really nice soundstage. However, if you have midbass drivers (in addition to tweeters, midrange, and sub), there is no way to automatically tune those in the process. You'd have to combine the midbass with either the midrange or sub preamp signal and use a crossover or built in crossover in a multi-channel amp to tune the proper frequencies for the midbass. This makes tuning more difficult. However, I don't think you can find any HU under $200 with 8 channel preamps. If only I could afford Pioneer's Stage 4. For the price of the 8800, I can't complain. Although my rating may lead you to believe I'm somewhat unsatisfied, let me assure you that this head unit has allowed me to upgrade my system from the stock Bose and achieve a sound that is 10x better. And I'm not sure any other HU under $200 sold through Crutchfield has Spotify capability, so that was a huge plus for me.
Pros: BT Spotify streaming and hands free calls Auto tune and equalization feature
Cons: Biggest gripe: Terrible glare on display makes it impossible to see in daylight with most colors. Impossible to see red during the day. White is the best. Faceplate seems flimsy - cheap lightweight plastic - and it doesn't come with a case. The rest of the unit seems well built and the buttons have nice tactile feedback when pushed. Does not have a dedicated radio scan button. You have to hold it down which ends up skipping stations.
I like this product, it was just what I was looking for. Easy installation only took 40 minutes. I followed the directions that came with the system. Also fits great in the dodge.
Good value for the money. Has the latest Bluetooth protocol and allows Siri hands-free. It's pretty cool that you can update the head unit settings via a smartphone app. Sound quality seems OK, if I try to use the 'bass boost' or adjust the EQ to enhance the bass, the factory subwoofer gets all overloaded and sounds awful. The only annoyances so far are that right when you get in the car, the system pairs with your phone. As it is pairing, you cannot view the clock. It would be nice if it would pair in the background and allow me to see other info in the display. Also, I wish the face plate wasn't so shiny. A matte finish on the display (like the factory system) would be a closer match for the mostly matte interior. The shininess of the otherwise tastefully designed head unit really stands out now.
Pros: - Good value - 4V amp outputs - Latest Bluetooth - Siri hands-free
Cons: - Bluetooth pairing locks display (can't see clock when you start vehicle) - Face unit too shiny, imho; stands out in interior
I decided to upgrade my 8 year old Alpine receiver with IMPRINT sound manager in my Audi A3. I've been a Alpine follower for years. There was nothing wrong with the unit but I wanted a head unit with bluetooth and FLAC files player. I only looked at Alpine and Pioneer. I have 2 Pioneer home audio receiver & like the way they sound with the MCACC Auto Room Tuning so I went with the Pioneer. After the calibration (only one position vs up to six on the Alpine) I tweak the audio settings a little, one of my favorite tracks to audition audio gear is A Day In The Life, by The Beatles. The singing starts on the right channel and slowly panning to the left, the soundstage in the Pioneer is almost as good as the Alpine, as you may know, the final chord (crescendo) of the song is one of the most famous in music history, the Alpine receiver with the IMPRINT is richer and fuller. The unit is power by 4 channel and mono Alpine amplifiers, speakers Infinity Reference 6020cs, 10 inch home made subwoofer. Overall very happy whit the unit, the bluetooth works as intended, my only issue is the display is hard to read and not able to adjust bass, treble and subwoofer on the fly. the customer service from Crutchfield was excellent.
Pros: great sound,bluetooth,
Cons: dim display. on the fly audio adjustments
Decided I needed to upgrade the factory radio in my '93 Deville. I've had Pioneer units in the past and they've always been top notch. Did a lot of looking around and researching before I bought this unit as there were a few key features I wanted in a new radio and this was one of the few that checked every box on my list of must haves. My only hesitation was that this unit was brand new to the market and there were absolutely no reviews on it, but I'm very glad I chose this unit. The first thing I noticed was the sound quality. Everything sounded richer and more pronounced right out of the box. I decided to run the Auto EQ program with the included mic and WOAH! I'm thoroughly impressed with how well my car sounds now even with the old factory speakers (which I do plan on upgrading eventually) and the 12" sub I have hooked up in the car! The Bluetooth streaming and calling work flawlessly. Streaming is crisp and clear while call sound quality is solid. HD radio is great and there's a clear and very noticeable difference in quality compared to standard AM/FM radio. The face of the unit is clean looking and uncluttered while slightly dim and hard to read at times. My only other gripe with the unit is that the menus can sometimes be hard to navigate especially while on the road. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase and with the quality of service I've received from Crutchfield. I will definitely be shopping with them again in the future.
Pros: Great sound quality Easy Install Tons of features Clean looking face Auto EQ
Cons: Hard to read the face in direct sunlight Menus can be hard to navigate at times

Bluetooth 3.0: The Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS.
Multi-Device Pairing w/ Dual Phone Connection: Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this receiver. You are even able to keep two Bluetooth-enabled phones connected at the same time, so you can make and receive calls from either phone through the head unit. You can only stream music from one phone at a time; you will be able switch between the two phones in the head unit's menu. Additional pairing features include -
Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The DEH-X8800BHS supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the DEH-X8800BHS provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The DEH-X8800BHS allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the DEH-X8800BHS, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.
Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the DEH-X8800BHS lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4+ phones only). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.
Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the DEH-X8800BHS and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.
Note: The head unit's front-panel LCD will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer CD receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device)..
Android Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS enables playback of stored music and music apps on select Android devices through its front-panel or rear-panel USB port. There are two types of modes to choose from based on your type of Android smartphone and what content you want to listen to.
- Before connecting your Android device, you will need to setup Android connectivity within the head unit's menu - select "Memory" for MTP mode and "App Control" for AOA 2.0 mode. You will also need to indicate which USB input (Front or Rear) you are using, before connecting your device.
- Only one USB input can be active at a time; only the active USB input will display as a source selection. You cannot simply toggle back and forth between the Front & Rear USB input. To change USB inputs, you must disconnect the Android device and make the change in the receiver's menu before connecting to the other USB input.

The auto-calibration microphone plugs into the head unit's front-panel Aux input and should be placed in the center of your vehicle's driver seat headrest facing forward during setup.

Audio Settings: The head unit provides further sound adjustments for your car audio system.

When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.
MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 3 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPod/iPhone, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.
Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.

Brightness Control: You can manually adjust the brightness (1-10) of the head unit's display to suit your viewing needs. You can also sync the receiver's illumination to the head units' clock or your vehicle's headlights. To dim the receiver's display automatically when the vehicle's headlights are turned on, you'll need to hardwire the orange/white wire of the head unit's harness to your vehicle's parking light circuit.
MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.
Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

I wanted three sets of preamp outputs and HD Radio. I've used Pioneer for years and I trust the brand. Plus, the audio quality of Pioneer head units are a step above Kenwood and Sony for the same price. [ Severn Dec 10, 2017 ]
I chose the Pioneer again because of one feature I absolutely love - it maintains connectivity with my Android smart phone for Bluetooth Audio streaming between car starts. Meaning, I'm streaming music, turn off the car, get back in and start up, and the Pioneer automatically reconnects and picks up the music where I left off without touching a thing. The Kenwood and Alpine I was considering both had comments that implied you had to reconnect each time you switch off the car. [ Dwayne Nov 17, 2017 ]
I have had good luck with the Pioneer brand since I got my first car. This one has all the features I am looking for at a great price. [ Christopher Oct 22, 2017 ]

Always have fun with Pioneer car audio and this has all the bells for under $200. [ Donald May 28, 2017 ]
This radio seems to have everything! It was very important to have the entire display match the BMW amber dash lights.I also wanted HD radio, and Blue Tooth connectivity. The Pioneer app seems pretty cool. I will be able to use it to match the cars dash colors.Although I rarely listen to cd's anymore, I was not quite ready to give up the feature.Lastly, I wanted something that looks like it came with the car. It has a basic clean not flashy look to it. [ Dave May 25, 2017 ]

a guy at work picked it out lol [ Michael Jan 31, 2017 ]
This unit has a lot of desirable features for the price. I felt it was a great value and I wasn't paying for a bunch of features I didn't need or want. [ nowucme Jan 10, 2017 ]
I chose this receiver because it includes these features: cd, HD radio, RDS for analog stations, radio preset buttons, equalizer, 1/8" auxiliary input, FLAC, and ability to display clock and radio frequency simultaneously. On a similar model I could disable ALL the inputs not being used, which I could not do on other brands. I am a little worried about the frequent complaint of a dim display . . . we will see. [ Sam Jan 06, 2017 ]
I heard it was a great head unit. I have a Alpine CDE 149 BT that crapped out on me. I'm hoping this one works and last longer. [ MikeU Dec 30, 2016 ]
The presets on this model are far more driver friendly than on the DEH-9600BHS model that I'm currently using. If you listen to AM/FM or Sirius/XM it's dangerous to scroll through the presets on the 9600 while driving especially when you factor in the small writing and dim display that other users complain about. [ RYAN Dec 29, 2016 ]
Everything I needed at a good price [ Moses Dec 02, 2016 ]
Great unit. Very versatile. Lots of features for the price. Excellent quality. [ Paul Nov 22, 2016 ]
This looks like the best head unit to fit my needs. Bluetooth audio, plus hands free calling integrated into the unit is great. It also has minimal negative reviews. We shall see! [ A Nov 08, 2016 ]
Chose this because of the features and ability to use two bluetooth devices same time (one phone always connected as phone and another phone for audio streaming for when I don't want to use direct connect USB). Also for the Arc App even though it has issues on the iPad, but hopefully they get that sorted in a future update. Switched from Sony GS810 that randomly started resetting itself and had a prior Pioneer double din that had zero issues, so went back. [ Seth Oct 16, 2016 ]
It has all that I expected [ Angel L. Oct 09, 2016 ]
Looking for a replacement for a Pioneer Avh-7700bt that constantly turned itself off at random intervals. Was not willing to pay $400 for another one so this was the exact same thing without a screen. [ Dillon Oct 03, 2016 ]
Looking for a good, basic head unit with HD radio, Bluetooth & USB capabilities. [ G Aug 02, 2016 ]
Bluetooth HD CD slot that doesn't require opening and closing the entire face, which is what eventually broke on my last Pioneer. 4 Volts [ PHILLIP R Aug 02, 2016 ]
Best features for the price. The included installation gear was just icing on the cake. [ Brian Aug 02, 2016 ]
I was looking for a digital media player for my Jeep Wrangler that had great Bluetooth, HD Radio, removable faceplate, high voltage output for my existing amplifier. It will replace a Sony unit that has poor Bluetooth and iPhone control. [ BrianATX Aug 01, 2016 ]

When connected to the front USB connector, the unit charges my Android 4.4 phone. Not sure about the rear USB port. [ MacGregor Jul 25, 2017 ]
If you are talking about the USB port then yes it will charge But mind you this is not a phone charger Meaning it will not charge a phone fast like a home charge does It works for my phone just fine,I use an Android and an ipod. [ DARYL Jul 20, 2017 ]
Yes Sir, this charges my phone when plugged into the USB port. [ Gilbert Jul 19, 2017 ]

It plugs into the rear [ Mike Mar 21, 2017 ]
The microphone plugs into the rear of the unit. See the diagram in the PDF manual for full connections. [ BrianATX Mar 21, 2017 ]
the mic plugs at the back. the logic is that it is a constant connection so you do not want the cord dangling in the front. [ Isaac Mar 21, 2017 ]
No. There is a jack on the back. Everything is concealed, if you can route the wire that way. [ Joseph Mar 21, 2017 ]
No. The mic plugs in the back. [ Keith Mar 21, 2017 ]
The mic is built in to the back. You run the line. Mine runs to and clips on to the visor. Your other option is to run it to the steering column, which I'm thinking about doing, because I'm not getting the voice clarity out of this unit that I got out of my older Pioneer unit. All and all I'm happy with this unit, but you get what you pay for. Sound/power is top notch, but the blue tooth is finicky and response time is slow when switching between anything. It's an A+ budget buy. [ PHILLIP R Mar 21, 2017 ]
It plugs into the back, then you route it where ever you want it to sit. [ Nickolas Mar 21, 2017 ]
The mic for the phone system ( so that you can talk hands free on a cell phone) plugs into the BACK of the unit, but the mic that you can use to do equalization of the frequency response plugs into the front of the unit. [ George Mar 21, 2017 ]
No, it is not bright enough. I wish I could find a display that was truly BRIGHT enough to see in sunshine, but I have not yet seen one. Other than that, it is a great receiver. [ Alan Mar 21, 2017 ]
The display is quite bright. It is likely to be fine in a convertible because you have a wide scale of brightness along with a wide election of display colors, so the combination should be fine. [ Marek Mar 21, 2017 ]
Probably not. I can't read it in my hardtop sedan in sunlight. It is the one thing I don't like about the unit. Otherwise, it has worked fine for me. [ Lee Mar 20, 2017 ]
As long as the sun light doesn't hit directly on the face. Note: I turned of the dimmer option; so it stays the same brightness if you turn your head lights on or not. As with any display; there will be certain situations where it will be hard to see. Hope this helps. [ Troy Mar 20, 2017 ]
You need the satellite adapter, which works great. This is an excellent unit! [ Alan Jan 16, 2017 ]
Ithe has a xm port on back of unit to plug in the xm radio Xm is not built in to this radio [ DARYL Jan 13, 2017 ]
It's XM ready, so it connects through an add-on option. [ Brian Jan 13, 2017 ]
You need a separate tuner for SirusXM, like the SXV300. [ Kent Jan 13, 2017 ]
You'll need a separate tuner (I used an SXV300) which plugs in to a dedicated port on the back the receiver. The Pioneer tuner controls all the relevant functions. [ Lee Jan 13, 2017 ]
I don't use xm radio but I did some digging for you. The manufactor says it's xm ready because the tuner is sold separately. [ Matthew Jan 13, 2017 ]
It does NOT have XM Radio built in. You need to add a tuner if you wish to receive XM Radio. But it has HD Radio which provides many more programs (stations) everywhere, with better audio quality and song information. [ Marek Jan 13, 2017 ]
This unit requires an add-on tuner which is connected as shown on page 25 of the manual. I'm not sure which tuners are compatible. It used to be the SiriusXM-SXV200V1 Tuner, but it is no longer available at Crutchfield and has been replaced. Not sure if the replacement is compatible. [ MacGregor Jan 13, 2017 ]
You need to add the SiriusXM SXV300 tuner. [ J Scott Jan 13, 2017 ]
This simply means it won't accept media transfers like pictures or docs. [ J Scott Oct 01, 2016 ]
MTP is explained on that page: It stands for Media Transfer Protocol, allowing transfer of media (music in this case) with all its data and attributes. In this case MTP also supports controlling the music on your Android device, but not for FLAC. In this case, in order to playback FLAC encoded files, you need to connect to USB memory that carries the files. Your phone case still be in USB mode, but this Pioneer receiver will not be able to control the phone, as it does for other music encoding types (MP3, AAC). Probably not an issues for most of the user, except of those that know what FLAC is and actually use it. [ Marek Sep 30, 2016 ]
MTP stands for "Media Transfer Protocol." When Android uses this protocol, it appears to the computer as a "media device." The media transfer protocol was widely promoted as a standardized protocol for transferring audio files to digital music players using Windows Media Player and similar applications. It was designed to allow other media player companies to compete with Apple's iPod and iTunes. This protocol works very differently from USB mass storage. Rather than exposing your Android device's raw file system to Windows, MTP operates at the file level. Your Android device doesn't expose its entire storage device to Windows. Instead, when you connect a device to your computer, the computer queries the device and the device responds with a list of files and directories it offers. The computer can download a file - it will request the file from the device, and the device will send the file over the connection. If a computer wants to upload a file, it sends the file to the device and the device chooses to save it. When you delete a file, your computer sends a signal to the device saying, "please delete this file," and the device can delete it. Android can choose the files it presents to you, and hide system files so you can't see or modify them. If you attempt to delete or edit a file that can't be modified, the device will refuse the request and you'll see an error message. Your computer doesn't need exclusive access to the storage device, so there's no need to connect the storage, disconnect it, or have separate partitions for different types of data. Android can also use ext4 or any other file system it wants - Windows doesn't have to understand the file system, only Android does. [ Josh Sep 30, 2016 ]
